The Community of Faith

Likely one shouldn’t go out on the limb so far as to claim, “This is the most important class you have ever taken.”  Some professors do.  My class is most important.  My class is more important than any other class.  The homework I assign is the most important homework in the world.

This is not about professors but preachers. This summer, one of the study series offered at the church where I minister will seek to understand spiritual formation in the context of the Christian community. If this study is not the most important, it is among the most important. We have missed this. We have treated spiritual growth as individual.  We have thought too little about spirituality as a characteristic of the community.  How spiritual are you?  How spiritual is your church?

Spiritual formation is a function of a healthy church.  Healthy churches nurture the faith of their members.  Healthy churches share the journey toward wholeness and maturity. Wish you could join us!
