What We Do
"Esperanza Eterna." These Spanish words mean "Eternal Hope." Our goal is to bring the hope of the gospel to as many people as possible around the world. While Latin America is especially near to our hearts, our focus is not limited to Latin America. We seek to encourage missions and bring hope in every place where God opens doors of opportunity to us. Our work is two-fold: we ourselves go--we encourage others to participate and go.

Missional: The Sent, The Senders, The Pre-sent
Mission is not something people do sporadically (mission trip, mission contribution, mission budget, mission support, etc.). Mission is the essence of God's plan for his missionary people. Because the word mission has a long history of use and misuse, more recently the word missional has been coined. A missional church is a community of Kingdom people who recognize their "sent-ness".
While the church is sent, not everyone can go. Missional reminds us that some are sent, others are senders. A third group I like to talk about are the "pre-sent". Some people are already where God wants them. They are present in the world where God has "pre-sent" them. A missional person sees clearly the call to be a missionary of God's plan and purpose everywhere one goes. Every member of the church falls into at least one of these categories: sent, sender, pre-sent.

Our Goal: HOPE
Using HOPE as an acronym, four activities define our purpose.

Helping Hands. We help churches and Christians find greater involvement in and commitment to God's mission. We do this through special events and series, consultation, and teaching and preaching. We help churches become aware of special Kingdom needs. We communicate, and serve as a liaison between churches and missional opportunities.

Open Eyes. A part of our purpose is to open the eyes of churches and Christians to the needs and the opportunities. We open eyes to opportunities and optimize the effectiveness of the church's involvement.

Personal Participation. We assist churches and Christians in finding opportunities for personal participation in God's work in the world. We also assist churches in planning their efforts for missional participation in Kingdom work around the world.

Encourage/Empower. We encourage churches in missional endeavors and empower churches and individuals to greater involvement in eternal things.

Activities
Following is a brief overview of our recent ministry and missions activities.
In 2007, we were involved in mission trips to Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Honduras. We spent just over four weeks out of the country. There is not space here to tell you of the wonderful things that are occurring across Latin America and around the world. People are receptive. Souls are being taught and won to Christ. Churches are being established. New teams are going forth.
With my return to pulpit ministry, I anticipate multiplied opportunities to participate in mission activities. From three mission trips in 2007, I plan to double that number in 2008. If I can assist your congregation in a mission trip, let me know.
In 2007 I participated in Missions Emphasis Sundays at several congregations. I met with several missions committees. In May, I facilitated a "Missional Church" session at Quest at Oklahoma Christian University. Please let me know if I can help your congregation in any mission activity.
The website is being reconstructed to make more ministry and mission materials available and easily accessible. I look forward to having more time to keep the website up-to-date. In addition to items which may be helpful in ministry or mission work, I continue to work on materials for leadership, small groups, and team development and enhancement.

Attention! Congregations, Elders, and Mission Committees
Our purpose in this ministry is to help congregations take the good news of Jesus to our communities and our world. We have some minimal working fund needs as we travel and provide support for missions and are always appreciative of those individuals and congregations who help us.

Almost always, I have a list of projects needing funding. Our philosophy is to do those things that the local congregations can support and continue after we are gone, without U.S. financing. It is a joy to help with temporary needs and in establishing new churches. We are effectively training preachers for Latin America and sending them forth "into all the world." If you would like to know how your congregation could be a part of an exciting mission work, please contact me for details. There is no limit to what God is willing to do through us, "immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine."

We invite you to join us in God's purpose of sharing Eternal Hope. We would be pleased to visit your congregation and make a PowerPoint presentation about what God is doing. Every person or congregation who participates receives regular reports and updates concerning the work being done.

Checks should be made payable to Edmond Church of Christ and marked for "Bob and Jan Young Missions". The church asks that we do the accounting so checks should be sent to 205 Ainsley Ct, Edmond, OK 73034.

Muchas gracias; que Dios le bendiga (thank you very much; may God bless you),
Bob and Jan Young
