[Note: this extended biographical information is provided to help those who may introduce me on various occasions. It is not anticipated that the entire biography would be read, but that the elements germane to the specific circumstance would be included in an introduction.]

In early 2010, Robert J. (Bob) Young concluded a second tenure as preaching minister for the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ in McAlester, Oklahoma. He served as minister with this congregation from 2002 to 2004 and again from late 2007 to early 2010. Between these two tenures, Bob served as director of Graduate Bible programs at Oklahoma Christian University. He now devotes his time to numerous ministry and mission works. He maintains an interest and limited involvement in interim ministry, but his primary involvement is in mission efforts in Latin America. He preaches and teaches for English-speaking US churches and also assists with several US Hispanic ministries.
Bob is founder and director of Latin American Leadership Development, a mission ministry devoted to assisting in the development of healthy churches throughout Latin America. For seventeen years, Bob served as a member of the board of Baxter Foundation, a U.S. non-profit organization devoted to advancing the mission of Baxter Institute and JMA Clinic in Honduras. He was also a member of the board of directors of Association Amicus, the Honduran non-profit organization which oversees Baxter Institute in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He is editor and translator of "En Pos de la Verdad," a Spanish evangelistic Bible study series with over 50,000 lessons in print. He works with EVO (Educacion Vocacional para Obreros, Training for Vocational Workers), a program overseen by the Memorial church in Houston, Texas, as a consultant and presenter.
He maintains a website (www.bobyoungresources.com) that provides videos, audios, and written resources for ministry and missions in both English and Spanish. New items are added to the website regularly. His YouTube channel is at "Bob Young Ministry and Missions."
He continues to work on a series of Bible Study Guides; volumes completed include Paul's Early Letters, Paul's Prison Letters, Paul's Pastoral Epistles, Hebrews, and the General Letters. He has published a book in Spanish, Evangelismo: Equipando y Energizado la Iglesia (Evangelism: Equipping and Energizing the Church). He has published three monographs (How to Read the Bible as Theology, A Simple Model for Bible Exegesis, and How to Move from the Biblical Text to Sermon), available in both English and Spanish. He is a regular speaker at seminars and workshops in the U.S. and throughout Latin America.

From 1995 to 2002, Bob served in multiple roles at Ohio Valley University, Vienna, West Virginia -- professor of Bible, chair of the Bible program, senior vice president and executive vice president. He supervised student ministry and mission field experiences as well as the required ministry practicum experience. He led a number of student mission campaigns, both domestic and foreign. As a professor, he taught textual courses, ministry courses, and biblical languages. He was named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1998, 1999, and 2007. He was named to the 10th edition of American Scholars in 2000.

Bob was a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and was a certified user of PREPARE/ENRICH marital counseling materials, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis, and several other psychological inventories. He maintains a limited practice in counseling, and as a former mathematics major also does some financial counseling. He previously served as a certified "Fishers of Men" evangelism instructor and has received special training in oncology chaplaincy. During his years in ministry, he was involved in several prison ministries.

Bob holds a BA degree in Bible and an MA degree in Ministry from Oklahoma Christian. He earned his doctorate degree (DMin) from Abilene Christian University with an emphasis in preaching and leadership studies. He holds minors in Greek and Biblical Languages. He also studied at Harding School of Theology and at Phillips Graduate Seminary where his studies were focused in church history and theology. His graduate studies emphasized evangelism, evangelism in the contemporary culture, evangelizing Baby Boomers, understanding church culture and growth dynamics, and increasing effectiveness for short-term mission efforts. His doctoral studies focused on team building for church leadership groups. He has received training for small groups ministry, and speaks frequently about small church dynamics, small groups ministry, team development, and involvement ministry.

Bob served as a minister in churches of Christ in Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Michigan, and West Virginia for over 40 years, spending 30+ years in full-time ministry. Twenty of those years of full-time ministry were spent with two churches, both of which experienced significant growth during his ministry. His ministry in preaching, teaching and conducting seminars has extended to 26 states and 18 countries.

Both he and his wife, Jan, have served as certified instructors in resource materials which address family dynamics, including American Guidance Service's "Effective Parenting" and "Systematic Training in Effective Parenting," and the nationally known Couples Communication Program. They have developed and presented a number of family and marital enrichment workshops.
