What are the real necessities of life? Boil it down. Cut to the chase. No periphery. No maybes. Not what would be nice. What are the most pressing needs? Two. Only two. For everyone every place. For families, businesses, individuals, churches. These are pressing needs. These are universal needs.
One, leadership. Always. Willing, wise, spiritual, strong. Pure motives, gracious lives,
sincere hearts. Direction, decisions, destiny. Direction demands insight, foresight, hindsight.
Direction comes from directed people. Does the leader know where he is going? Decision
making is no place for novices, timidity, loose cannons. I recently read again Josiah Gilbert
Holland's phrase: "Tall men, sun-crowned...Men whom the lust of office cannot kill...whom the
spoils of office cannot buy." Destiny. Destiny is in the hands of the leaders. What shall
ultimately be? Where are we going? How shall we get there? How shall we be when we get
there? Will we be led to integrity, wholeness, maturity?
Two, sufficient stuff. Resources. Including money. Hard earned, freely given.
Prayerfully received as a sacred trust, prayerfully spent. Never squandered. Remembering
always the faith and intentions which prompted its giving.
For any person or group or institution blessed with God's leaders and God's people providing sufficient resources, every dream is possible. The sky is not the limit--we can reach above the stars. Which is what we have been called to do! Let us rise up and do what we have been called to do.
