It's Just Junk

It is amazing how much "junk" one can accumulate on this earth journey. Whereas Paul said the stuff of life was to be counted as dung, or refuse, most of us could affirm with understanding, the stuff of life is just junk.

An accumulation of "life junk" will drag you away from a walk with God. The junk I am talking about is not necessarily possessions. Unforgiven hurts, grudges, disappointments, slights, TV shows that are more exciting than worship, relentless schedules that become increasingly hurried. Such stuff encourages us to drift. Such is the darkness that makes the light fade. Such is the stuff that takes the joy from living, and gives a sense of need in the midst of abundance.

I met a man yesterday, not long before I preached. I know little of his story. Before service began, during the announcements, he stumbled forward. The church sang a song as I talked with him. As we talked, he spoke of being away from God for 30 years. "I've asked God to forgive me, I want to be part of this church again." He was ready to leave 30 years of "life junk" at the garbage dump.

Give up on the lost people I love?
Not just yet--maybe God will reach them in 30 years.
Have you given up on yourself?
Feel like you've drifted too far?
Believe you are too deeply into "life junk" to escape?
Come home--we're family.
Just one requirement--leave your "junk at the door."
