Seminar in Trujillo, Peru

Ministry and mission work is a team effort -- Jan and I have shared the work of ministry and missions for over 50 years! (We traveled together to preaching appointments during the year before we were married.) Countless people have encouraged us, supported us, loved us, and prayed for us. In addition to the customary "Brother Bob," I am also known as dad and papaw. One of my favorite breakfasts is huevos fritos, frijoles, and tortillas, with a good hot sauce and a cup of rich Colombian coffee! My greatest joy in life is being part of the kingdom; my #1 priority is to advance "kingdom things" and to help develop authentic "kingdom people." I seek to share the good news about Jesus everywhere I go, helping people find Jesus and helping people mature as disciples of Jesus. One of the greatest blessings of my life is to be loved by countless people around the world!

New Testament Daily Devotionals
Early in 2011, I began work on a series of devotionals designed to guide a person in reading or studying every chapter in the New Testament in a year. By late February, enough progress had been made on the initial stages of the project to begin posting the devotionals. As a result, the 2011 version of the Bible reading and devotional schedule included devotionals from March 2011 through February 2012. These initial readings are available in the 2011 Devotionals Index, so named even though the schedule did not perfectly match the calendar year.

From the beginning, I envisioned that the project would result in a devotional series with at least two unique features.
First, the plan is unique because devotionals are provided for only five days each week. [I thought that many would use the devotionals Monday through Friday, although other scheduling options could be used.] This plan, using 5 devotionals each week for 52 weeks, covers all of the 260 chapters of the New Testament in a year.
Second, not only is each daily devotional based on a chapter of the New Testament, I also attempted in writing the devotionals to reflect the content of the chapter and its importance to the overall message of the New Testament. One may choose to read either the devotional Scripture text (included with the devotional) or the entire chapter (using one's personal Bible). Those who faithfully read the entire chapter will read through the New Testament in one year.

The order of readings provided in the guide allows the reader to alternate between different sections of Scripture and different types of New Testament literature (gospels, history, letters, prophecy) rather than consecutively reading the Gospels or the Pauline letters. [Links are also provided to the New Testament books to provide the option of consecutive readings for those who prefer to read the New Testament that way.] The schedule allows weekends to be used for catching up, for other reading and study projects, for Bible class preparations, or for Old Testament readings.

The 2012 Daily Devotional and Reading Schedule began with the Gospel of Matthew and concluded with the book of Revelation, following the same book order as the 2011 schedule. The overlap in January and February of 2012 allowed readers to complete both schedules. Many of the devotionals were edited for 2012. The devotional reading schedules for past years (2011-2016) are linked above, although the content has changed little from year to year.

Beginning in 2017, the reading schedule was generalized in the e-publication of an annual guide. The annual guide is available at Annual Guide to New Testament Bible Reading with Devotionals for Every Chapter. Little by little, many of the devotionals are being edited, rewritten, and updated.

A Short Guide to Reading the Psalms Devotionally
In 2013, I wrote a series of devotional readings and prayers based on the Psalms, completing the project in early October. I hope to edit the guide in the near future, but the current version is available online. You may access these devotionals at A Short Guide to Reading the Psalms Devotionally.
