It’s Sunday Again: Missions

I am thinking and praying this morning about missionary endeavors. I encourage you to make mission work a part of your prayer today and throughout the coming month. October will be a month of mission emphasis for Jan and me.

  • This evening our local congregation has a guest speaker scheduled as a first step toward a mission trip to Honduras in June 2011. I am confident excitement will be high as we hear about the possibilities for outreach and evangelism.
  • For two Sundays in October Jan and I will be participating in Mission Emphasis Sundays. Such Sundays are designed to help churches focus their attention on the significance of mission work as a part of the local church program. Many churches use such events to lead up to an annual Missions Contribution which funds their mission work for the coming year.
  • Toward the end of the month, we will travel to Central America for the Pan-American Lectureship. I have been asked to teach the book of Galatians as a missionary letter and am thoroughly enjoying a fresh look at this letter as I prepare the lessons (another mission activity during October).

When God looks at our world, I am confident he sees his children and their involvement in his purpose. I believe he also sees the vast majority of the world that is yet disconnected from relationship with him through his grace extended in Christ. He desires that his human creation recognize him, revere him, and respond to him in redemptive relationship. The purpose of God guides our own personal lives as we walk with him. The purpose of God must also guide our lives as we strive to share the good news with all the world.
