Our first full day in Quito has been overcast and rainy, with only very brief sunshine earlier in the day. In fact, it was raining fairly hard last night as we landed just before midnight. An unfortunate aspect of the cloudy weather is that the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains are obstructed. Despite the rain, the day has been delightful. We ate breakfast with Berto and Carmen Murillo and Greg Smith. Lingering over breakfast provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss mission work, especially concerning family problems among the Hispanic communities both in the U.S. and Latin America (the subject of Berto’s dissertation), and the need to dream new dreams in a variety of mission endeavors. A morning walk provided needed exercise (we always eat too much) and a trip to the SuperMaxi for a good supply of purified water (for coffee in the room and taking our regular regimen of pills). Lunch found us involved in another mission discussion, this time with Kent and Phyllis Allen.
We are anticipating the time with the North Quito church tomorrow and the first full day of the Lectureship.
