I hope you are committed to hearing God daily. It is not easy to find the time to read, study, pray, listen. It is not easy to find quiet time with God. Here's a formula that may help.

I. Relax.
Don't complicate your quiet time. Sit down, think, meditate, withdraw from the concerns of this world, get comfortable, listen to the quiet. Be still, be quiet, slow down. Prepare your heart. Prepare for God, "Lord, even before I open your Word, I commit in advance that I will do what you want me to do. Help me hear you today." This step should take you a minute or two at most.

II. Read.
Read Scripture, or read devotional material. Include at least some Scripture. Reading aloud will help keep you focused. What are you hearing, learning? What is God saying? Think as you read. Listen for the lessons. What is God's plan for you. I suggest you read 5-10 minutes.

III. Reflect.
Think about what you have read. Reflect upon God in your life, meditate upon his unique will for you, and commit to following his guidance. Reflection will include a time of prayer which does not have to be long.

This quiet time formula takes only 10-15 minutes. It is a great way to start the day, it is a great way to end a day. Relax, read, reflect. May God bless you in your efforts to hear him and respond to his will and way in your life.
