Missions: Because of Jesus

"Pray the Lord of harvest to send forth laborers into his harvest." (Matt. 9:38)

The key to missions is the hand of God, and that key is in our prayer life, not in our work life. Concern with what we are getting done often is our method of evading concentration on God. To the extent we focus on the missions program we lose sight of the missions power. Missions that accomplishes Jesus' purpose is not focused on common sense, medical needs, civilization, education, or even evangelism. The key is prayer. Prayer is not natural, and it is not practical. Prayer is absurd. Prayer makes no sense when set along side common sense. But the available power is available to us through no other means.

The world is before us. Jesus claims the harvest. A Christian called through loyalty to Jesus Christ, one who knows the disciple is not above his master, never dictates to Jesus what he will and will not be willing to do in the harvest. "Here am I, send me." Pray the lord of harvest, and he will orchestrate the circumstances that thrust you into the harvest even before you think you are ready. All because the lord of the harvest is also our lord. All because we recognize our lord as lord of the world--indeed, Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
