"For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God to the salvation of all who believe...." (Rom. 1:16)

The war in Iraq has made the phrase familiar to almost everyone--"weapons of mass destruction." Weapons with the potential to destroy masses of people are an awesome, and fearful, thought. What if such weapons fall into the wrong hands?

Have you considered the opposite concept? I am thinking today about a similar, but different, phrase--"weapon of mass salvation." Our powerful God has placed at our disposal a weapon so powerful that it does not have to appear in the plural--the gospel is God's saving power. It is so powerful that it can save masses of people, yea, everyone. The idea of a weapon with the potential to save masses of people is an awesome thought.

What if such a weapon existed? What if it were used for its intended purpose? What if it fell into the hands of the wrong people--people who sought only to protect it and secure it and keep it from the world? What if it were placed on a shelf to display its purity and never taken into the world of sin and dirt where it could do its saving work? What if....

Indeed, we do have a weapon of mass salvation from God! How are we using it?
