Prayer For Deliverance From Distractions

Father, we live in a constant state of noise. Without noise, we are bored. The noises of each day, we suspect, keep us from coming face to face with our unresolved past, the uncertain present poised to break in on us, and the even less certain future which looms before us.

So accustomed to noise in our physical lives, it is easy for us to seek still more noise in our weekly celebration of worship. It is hard for us to seek quietude. It is not easy for us to be still and know that you are God.

As we celebrate your goodness, your mercy, and your loving kindness to us, help us focus for a quiet moment and listen attentively only to your voice. We need to be quiet so we can listen. When we worship and celebrate, may our worship not be the noisy celebration of the world. May it be a quiet celebration of the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us and continues to dwell in us by faith.

Almighty God, you are light, life, and the only source of our hope. Grant that we will today be transformed and quipped for whatever you present to us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
