I am a local church enthusiast! I believe the local church is "where it's at." One purpose of the church is to reach out for Christ. Throughout the ages, the church has done that very thing. The church has been the launching pad for evangelism and missions so that people might hear the gospel. When a local church is really trying to do that job--aggressively, evangelistically, involving others, reaching out to its community--I can become excited about that church. Such activities are never accidental. The real difference between mediocrity and greatness is vision. We need faith to see great things accomplished.

The days ahead are head of immense potential. An almost limitless number of souls are out there to reach for Jesus as the population of our world virtually explodes. The mandate we have is to be about the business of reaching those people, and the local church is the instrument God has chosen for that purpose. The treasure has been placed in earthen vessels to show his excellent power.

We are committed to the challenge because God has called us to climb. Jacob dreamed about a stairway reaching from earth to heaven. "At the top of the stairs stood the Lord. ‘I am Jehovah," he said, ‘the God of Abraham...I am with you, and will protect you wherever you go....' Then Jacob woke up. ‘God lives here!' he exclaimed in terror. ‘I've stumbled into his home!'" (Gen. 28:13,15-16). That same God lives today among us. He is alive. He calls us to the joy of his protection and guidance. He is here to help us climb, grow, and become. Will others know he is among us when they observe our actions and activities? God help us see, help us reach, help us care, help us grow!
