Small or Large?

Have you noticed that small things in life can add up to big things? Five babies at one time--quintuplets in a home or babies in a Bible school nursery class--add up to a big job! Inviting a friend to Bible class and worship may not seem a big thing, but one invitation can alter eternity. The danger we face as we approach special emphases is thinking our effort is so small it will not be missed.

Consider two words.

  • EVERYONE. This word reminds us that the challenge is great because everyone can be reached with the gospel. The opportunity is great because everyone needs the gospel. The potential is great because most have never heard the gospel. Why must we concern ourselves with missions, friends, and evangelism? Because of everyone.
  • ETERNITY. This word tells us that the stakes are high. The results we seek are out of this world. Things that can affect eternity are not small things. Why must we concern ourselves with missions, friends, and evangelism? Because of eternity. Zechariah asked, "Who has despised the day of small things?' We cannot, and must not. Why evangelize? Because everyone will one day spend eternity somewhere. EVERYONE.
