This course is designed to acquaint the student with elementary aspects of New Testament Greek by continuing the study of Greek grammar and vocabulary begun in Greek 1. This course covers vocabulary, basic inflections, syntax, and grammar typical of a second semester course. It includes the introduction of Greek grammatical concepts, the memorization of high frequency Koine Greek vocabulary, translation exercises as found in the textbook/workbook, and beginning reading from I John.

The school attendance policy will be followed. Evaluation criteria and the probability of success, especially in language learning, are heavily weighted in favor of regular class attendance. Students are expected to attend class regularly. Especially in languages, much learning takes place during class. Daily participation and quiz grades cannot be recorded for absent students. Students with excessive absences may not perform successfully on exams. It is the responsibility of the student to inform the instructor in writing or by phone within 24 hours when an absence must be excused. The student is responsible for obtaining all assignments and completing any work missed.
Students are expected to arrive at class on time. (See the catalog for details.) Daily quizzes are usually administered at the beginning of class. If a student must arrive at class late for an unforeseen circumstance, he or she is expected to enter class without being disruptive and wait until after class to explain the reason for his or her tardiness. Three tardies equal one absence.
Homework must be turned in on time or early. If you cannot turn week in on time, you must ask for permission to turn the work in late. In many cases, late homework cannot be accepted since the answers are given in class. Late homework that is accepted will be accepted only during the next class period following the date the homework was due with one letter grade reduction (10%). The grade reduction will be waived for excused absences. Daily in-class work and quizzes cannot be made up.
Make-up Test Policy
Make-up exams are available only in extreme emergencies. Arrangements for make-up exams must be made with the instructor prior to the exam. Students who score less than 70% on a major exam may petition to retake the exam; the exam must be retaken within one week after the graded exam is returned to the student. It is the student's responsibility to ask in a timely manner to retake the exam. The highest grade on any retaken exam will be C (75%).
Group Work and Copying
While students may work together in a group to complete a homework assignment, learning a language is an individual process, and all students must participate in the process if learning is to occur. Do not allow a fellow student to participate in group work if she or he does not materially contribute to the learning process. Do not copy your homework from anyone else (or from the English text), do not allow anyone else to copy your homework. Homework exercises are worth about 15% of the grade in this class; attendance is worth about 15% of the grade. Satisfactorily having learned the language as demonstrated on pop quizzes and major tests is worth about 70%%. Do not cheat yourself or others. Learn the material.
Students will be expected to read aloud assigned work, the Greek text and their own literal English translation of it in class. The order of reading will be random so students should prepare all exercises every day. Reading will be graded as prepared, ill-prepared, unprepared. Students may use any helps they choose outside of class to prepare the reading, but in the class during readings, the only book permitted is the Greek text. Students should prepare sufficiently to remember vocabulary. The professor will assist with a meaning if necessary. Specifically, I do NOT want to see open English Bibles, translations on loose paper, or interlinears of any type, including hand-written interlinears in the student's Greek text.

The successful student will master all of the course objectives to some degree--no item will be completely omitted. The successful student will cooperate with the professor in a mutually stimulating and exciting learning experience. Evaluation will be based upon mastery of these goals and objectives as reflected in class participation, quizzes, homework and other various assignments, and examinations.
